Parents said that they are frustrated as they see their kids struggling.
They want to see teachers decide whether to have full in-person instruction in the final days of the school year.
Vanessa Smith, one of the parents at the rally, says the AM/PM model has ruined her scheduling. What I do typically is that I am just running kids around, running them around to school and picking them up,” Smith said. “Two hours is not a long time.
Matt Tennis, a Chico Unified School Board member, also showed up at the rally being the one board member that supported the return to full in-person learning this school year.
CUSD Board sticks to AM/PM model, some parents feel they were not heard
Several parents went in-person and over the phone to advocate for students to fully return to the classroom. CDC guidelines allow for 3-feet distance, but the board made no changes to the school year.

CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Unified School Board decided to stay with the current AM PM model for the rest of the school year for all schools.
Parents are upset that change wasn t made here Wednesday night, they feel the school board did not take into consideration what their children are feeling.
Officers with the Redding Police Department shot and killed a suspect after he fired at a parked car. It happened in south Redding, just west of Highway 273, near Railroad and Grandview Avenues. The suspect ran after crashing a stolen pickup truck on Highway 273, officers said. They opened fire after the man fired into a parked car, officers said. Investigators are searching for a woman who was also involved in that crash and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
A divided city council declared an end to the Chico shelter crisis. The city council rejected a proposal for an outdoor shelter at the BMX course in Chico with on-site resources, security, and services for homeless people. During the discussion, Councilmember Kami Denlay proposed a substitute motion to stop working on the BMX shelter concept altogether and to immediately rescind the shelter crisis declaration. The vote passed 5-2.

Gov. Gavin Newsom and the Biden Administration have unveiled plans to open mass vaccination sites in California. Gov. Newsom is promoting the Los Angeles and Oakland sites as part of a larger effort to target under-served communities. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will run the new sites with state help.
Shasta County Public Health officials say the county is moving in the right direction. In a public health conference, health officials said the average weekly case and positivity rates for coronavirus are dropping. That means Shasta County could move into the red tier in as little as two weeks. Public Health leaders are urging people to avoid large gatherings with Super Bowl Sunday this weekend.
