Future funeral directors can apply for funding

WETHERSFIELD All Connecticut high school seniors pursuing careers as funeral directors now can apply for scholarship funds from the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association. The statewide professional organization will award three graduating high school seniors with $500 in scholarship funds to be used toward their education and professional training. Applications must be submitted by June 15.
All funeral directors/embalmers in the State of Connecticut are licensed. The licensure requirements include a degree in mortuary science or funeral service from an accredited college or university, successful completion of the National Conference Board Examination, and a one-year apprenticeship under the direct supervision of a licensed funeral director/embalmer. Aurora Noon Lions Club will celebrate St. Patrick s Day with a corned beef and cabbage dinner fundraiser to benefit vision- and hearing-impaired programs.
The public is invited. The drive-thru or dine-in event will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Luigi s Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.
Dinner options are corned beef and cabbage with carrots, potatoes, bread and a cookie or an Italian beef sandwich with carrots, potatoes and a cookie.
Tickets, $10, are available at the door and from Aurora Noon Lions. Order in advance at auroranoonlions.org, or luigispizzaandfundcenter.com.
Proceeds will benefit Lions vision- and hearing-impaired programs.

The Heywood Lions Club is on the hunt for new members to allow it to continue serving the local community.
For nearly 50 years, Heywood Lions Club has been supporting deserving causes in the local community, nationally and internationally.
Lions Clubs are groups of volunteers which join together give their valuable time and effort to improving their communities, and the world.
Having begun in 1917, there are 48,000 Lions Clubs worldwide across more than 200 countries. There are three in the borough: Heywood, Littleborough and Rochdale.
Lion Steve Brown said: “The club currently only has six members and to enable us to continue and/or increase our support for many good causes, we are looking for new members with new ideas.”

The Park Rapids Parks and Beautification Board on Monday reviewed cost projections for several upcoming park improvement projects.

City Planner Andrew Mack reported that a parks board subcommittee met with a technician from Flagship Recreation to discuss design concepts and cost estimates for Deane Point Park improvements, including a new pavilion to replace one that is becoming structurally unsound.

The Park Rapids Parks and Beautification Board recommended an update of the city’s Comprehensive Parks and Trails Plan on Jan. 11 for adoption by the city council.
