Sarah Choo Jing is an artist who refuses to be constrained by any one medium.
The Singaporean artist explores photography, video and installation in her work, and previously trained in photo-realistic paintings and sculpture. With a mastery of so many artforms, Sarah’s accolade list is impressive – most recently, she was a finalist at the coveted 2020 Sovereign Asian Art Prize and shortlisted for the 2021 Audemars Piguet Art Commission.
4. ArtScience on Screen: Season of the Force
The Season of the Force is a film programme that accompanies ArtScience Museum‘s new exhibition, STAR WARS™ Identities. The creator of STAR WARS™, George Lucas has noted that the exhibition “will engage that connection where fantasy meets reality, with a dash of reflection and adventure.”
The Season of the Force will illuminate the cinematic universe that inspired the exhibition, through screenings from the series, plus film presentations which explore the story worlds, ideas and visual styles which influenced George Lucas.
The season showcases the timeless appeal of the iconic space opera series, as well as providing insight into the films, directors and aesthetics which shaped George Lucas’ art and provided the blueprint for the canon’s universe. Season of the Force begins in January and will culminate in May around Star Wars Day – May the 4th.
Singaporean artists to have on your radar Share
As the recent Singapore Art Week has shown us, the local art landscape is a rich and diverse one.
There is a multitude of Singaporean artists to be discovered, including painters that draw from traditions of past art movements; conceptual artists that tackle social issues such as marginalisation and class politics; and digital creators that blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
What’s just as exciting is the support that have buoyed these emerging creatives as of late. Take Creative Unions, for example. The month-long programme, currently held at Funan Mall, has selected an array of Singapore artists to team up with brands across fashion, food, lifestyle and more. And let’s not forget the efforts of independent galleries like Cuturi Gallery and Coda Culture, which can be credited to putting these young talents in the spotlight in the first place.

Singapore s annual family-centric Chinese New Year event returns in 2021. Nestled among flora and fauna in nature park for a safer, socially distanced celebration, River Hongbao 2021 lands in Gardens By The Bay for the very first time with dazzling lanterns.
Admission is free but for safety and social distancing measures, all visitors have to book their tickets on its website.

It is no mean feat to make steel and wood look graceful and fluid, but Zulkifli Lee has done it with the sculptures in his solo exhibition
Interdependence at Taksu Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
With the gallery closed since Jan 13 due to the movement control order (MCO), art lovers can view the exhibition online here.
Even with online viewing, it is obvious that these sculptures have interlocking components that click and mesh in perfect synchronicity, a perfect fit every time. These small units can stand on their own, while simultaneously existing as part of a larger whole.
