Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is sending nearly SGD 7 million (approx Rs 38 crore) to its counterpart in India for distribution to hospitals and medical institutions fighting the country s worst health crisis, its secretary general and CEO Benjamin Williams has said. Williams received a SGD1 million cheque of donations collected by the Singapore Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) and the Little Indian Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA). Singaporeans have the heart to donate, said LISHA Chairman C Sankaranathan at the cheque presentation ceremony on Thursday. The plight of India is deeply saddening. We want to thank everyone who has pitched in to make a difference in the unprecedented crisis that India is facing.

SINGAPORE - An outpouring of support in the last two weeks has seen the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) raise over $3.2 million to help India in its Covid-19 fight.
The public appeal on April 28 saw organisations and individuals contributing towards SRC s efforts to secure much-needed equipment including oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders and ventilators as well as hygiene and medical kits.
Mr Benjamin William, chief executive and secretary-general of the SRC, said on Wednesday (May 12): Over the past two weeks, we have seen an outpouring of support from individuals and organisations, for which we are grateful. With the number of cases in India increasing day by day, the needs on the ground are growing in tandem, and so are the resources required to support affected and at-risk communities.
SINGAPORE - Organisations and individuals have stepped up in impressive numbers to help India battle its frightening surge in Covid-19 cases.
The efforts range from individuals and bodies like the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) initiating fund-raising campaigns to groups procuring medical supplies such as oxygen concentrators.
The SRC has been particularly active, pulling in $2.6 million since it started its fund-raising drive on April 28.
Another initiative was launched by Adani Singapore, the South-east Asia regional headquarters for Adani Group, a diversified infrastructure organisation based in India.
The firm partnered the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the SRC to donate 300 oxygen tanks to the Indian Red Cross. These were sent with the Indian Navy on Tuesday.
