Traffic stop in Elkton yields heroin, two arrests

ELKTON — Investigators filed drug charges against a man after confiscating nearly 60 baggies containing suspect heroin mixed with fentanyl during a traffic stop in Elkton, according to Cecil County District Court records. Cecil County Sheriff’s Office Dfc. Brian Bravo stopped a 2017 Dodge Ram driven by the suspect — David Michael Smith, 24, of the 1100 block of Jackson Hall School Road near Elkton — at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the 200 block of West Main Street, police said. The deputy made the traffic stop after noticing that Smith allegedly failed to give a turn signal, before accessing West Main Street from Landing Lane, and that one of the brake lights on his pickup truck was not functioning, police added.

Client charged with burglary at Elkton mental health center

ELKTON — A man remained jailed Tuesday after he allegedly broke into a mental health and wellness recovery center in Elkton — where he is one of the clients — and then made a pot of coffee, according to Cecil County District Court records. Investigators identified the suspect as 35-year-old Elkton resident Kody Joseph Langelan. Elkton Police Department Ofc. Kevin Forster responded to the facility, On Our Own, in the 200 block of East Main Street shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday, after receiving a complaint from the center’s director, Chanelle Pounds, police reported. Pounds had been communicating with Langelan through text messages, emails and voice messages earlier that morning, police said. She had made arrangements to give Langelan a ride to the center, but, at 5:30 a.m., he left a message changing the time of his pickup, police added.

Cecil Solidarity protests to show support for inmates seeking better conditions at Detention Center

Approximately 30 people marched to the Cecil County Detention Center (CCDC) near Elkton Wednesday night, in support of inmates seeking improvements to their living conditions. The protest, organized by Cecil Solidarity, involved several relatives of incarcerated people who said the CCDC does not provide adequate medical care and follow proper COVID procedures. “We are here to be a voice for the voiceless,” said Christine Givens, president of Cecil Solidarity. “If we’re not going to do it, who else is going to do it?” The group gathered at the county road that leads to the detention center before listening to several speeches, mainly by family members or partners of inmates who addressed the conditions at the CCDC that their loved ones described to them.

House raid near Elkton nets drugs, guns, one arrest

ELKTON - A man remained jailed on Thursday after investigators confiscated more than a half-pound of suspect methamphetamine and slightly less than a half-pound of cocaine, in addition to other evidence, while raiding his residence near Elkton, according to Cecil County District Court records. Investigators also seized three guns - including two tactical rifles - and multiple rounds of ammunition during the court-approved search, which was conducted at approximately 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the unit block of Caribou Court by Maryland State Police Cpl. Michael Cornbrooks and members of the Drug Enforcement Administration Wilmington Resident Office Group 41, court records show.
