School of Technology kicks off Cecil County graduation season

Habitat for Humanity can now take volunteers for builds

ABERDEEN — Now that pandemic restrictions have been — for the most part — relaxed, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna can look for volunteers to help with several houses being built in Cecil County. “We’ll take pretty much anyone over the age of 16,” said John Lanigan, Construction Volunteer Coordinator. No experience is needed but if you have experience you are especially welcome. “Carpentry would be a great help currently,” Lanigan said, since there are homes going up; one in Perryville on Richmond Street and another in Rising Sun; although that one involves a home pre-built by the Cecil County School of Technology. Once the shell of that house is complete then there will be a need for many other tasks.

AgriCulture: Farm Museum sneak peek, free fishing dates announced

Cecil County Farm Museum and Regional Agricultural Center is poised to open its doors to the public next month. There was a sneak preview Wednesday for officials of Cecil County and Maryland as well as Cecil County Public Schools. The center is located on Appleton Road in Elk Mills and shares the campus of the Cecil County School of Technology. Jeffrey Lawson, superintendent of the schools, said he sees the center becoming part of the curriculum. “I think it’s a great idea to bring some of our students through in a field trip setting,” Lawson said after touring the buildings, which include living displays, vintage and antique farm technology and a classroom. “Here they can experience and learn more about the local community.”

CCPS awards contract to design new North East Middle School

NORTH EAST — The Cecil County Public Schools Board of Education approved a resolution to award a $2.2 million contract to Grimm & Parker Architects of Beltsville, Md., to design the new North East Middle School. The new school will be built adjacent to the current North East high school building on Irishtown Road. If the county and state agree to fund the project this fall, construction will begin as early as July 2022, with students using the building as early as the 2024-25 school year. The current middle school was first built in 1932 as a high school, before becoming a middle school in 1972.

Maryland State Police Sgt. While interacting with the driver, Yong Bao Wang, 62, of Flushing, N.Y., the sergeant “detected numerous indicators of criminal activity and believed that Wang was actively engaged in a drug crime,” court records allege.
