Jackson man charged in high-speed motorcycle chase
JACKSON - A township man was apprehended after fleeing on foot and hiding in the woods near Cedar Swamp Road following a high-speed motorcycle chase, police said.
Joseph Sica, 36, was traveling northbound on the roadway about 9:30 p.m. Monday when an officer initiated a traffic stop for no visible license plate or operational rear light, according to authorities.
The motorist, who police said was Sica, pulled into the parking lot of Glory’s Market to turn around and flee at a high rate of speed southbound, officials said.
The pursuit was terminated after Sica continued to accelerate his motorcycle. But a short time after, the officer observed him pulling into the driveway of a Cedar Swamp Road home, abandoning the motorcycle and running into the woods behind the house, police said.
A Jackson man extradited from Texas in March after a hit-and-run crash on Christmas Eve that led to the death of an 81-year-old Howell woman will remain in jail pending his trial.
Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez, 27, is facing charges of knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license while being involved in a fatal accident.
On Dec. 24, Norman Shtab, 83, of Howell was driving a 2010 Mercedes Benz with his wife Phyllis as a passenger, when he exited Interstate 195 and tried to make a left turn onto Cedar Swamp Road, according to a news release issued by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. That s when Shtab s car collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Alcazar-Sanchez, the release said.

A 27-year-old fugitive who fled after being involved in a fatal crash in New Jersey on Christmas Eve was arrested Wednesday at a Texas town along the U.S. border with Mexico, officials said .
Roberto Alcazar-Sanchez, of Jackson, ran off after a vehicle he was driving collided with a car around 6 p.m. on Dec. 24, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.
The driver of the other car an 83-year-old Howell man was exiting Interstate 195 at exit 21 and trying to make a left on Cedar Swamp Road when the crash took place. The man’s passenger Phyllis Shtab, 81, of Howell, died of her injuries two days later at Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune. The Howell man was treated and released from the hospital.
