MICHIGAN â With the sun shining bright Tuesday morning, the famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means thereâll be six more weeks of winter. However, thatâs no reason to remain stuck indoors, especially when you can go fat tire biking.
âThese fat tires, they go through just about anything. You run the tire pressure very low so youâre just kind of floating over the snow,â said Craig Gietzen of the Rockford Bike Club, pointing to his tires. âIt allows you to get out in the woods, some of the cross-country type, groomed-type trails, which are already available around Grand Rapids, and itâs just feels like youâre floating and itâs very peaceful.â

The Feb. 1 reopening came with multiple limitations, including on capacity as well as hours. Once again, the changes put restaurant owners in the position of figuring out how to make a new approach work, all while maintaining strict safety standards.

Michigan breweries were confronted with some of their biggest challenges in 2020. What can we expect in the craft brewing world here in the Mitten as move forward? Will adversity spark creativity? Are big changes coming to Michigan beer? Inquiring minds want to know.
“By and large, the craft beer world is a progressive world,” said David Ringler from Cedar Springs Brewing Company, when asked about trends in beer for 2021.
We reached out to a few experts in the beer industry to get their take on what might be coming in 2021. We found that while there some things they saw happening across the board, there are also a few interesting outliers that might prove to be bigger players in years to come.

After the blind judging of more than 6,000 beers from around the world, the U.S. Open Beer Championship announced the medal winners, including two representing West Michigan.
Cedar Springs Brewing Company continued its winning streak at the U.S. Open Beer Championship for the third year in a row. Küsterer Pils (Bohemian Pilsener) and Eire Irish Stout (Classic Irish Dry Stout) both earned gold in their respective categories.
New Holland Brewing Company also won gold for its Dragon’s Milk White barrel-age pale, silver for Hazy River hazy pale ale and bronze for Dragon’s Milk Solera in the barrel-aged strong beer category.
