Eastern Iowa authors will discuss work, launch new anthology Saturday in virtual event Isaac Hamlet, Iowa City Press-Citizen
Eastern Iowa independent authors are gathering on social media Saturday to showcase their work and launch a new anthology.
Dubbed an Authors Takeover the free digital event allows book lovers to connect with local writers starting at 10 a.m. It is hosted by The Writers Rooms and can be viewed on the Facebook page of the Cedar Rapids-based nonprofit: www.facebook.com/groups/writersroomsanthologies
Authors will be giving half-hour presentations until 5 p.m., in formats that vary. What each author does is going to be different. Some are planning to go live. One has a pre-recording of herself, showcasing and explaining her work, said Erin Casey, executive director of The Writers Rooms, a Cedar Rapids-based nonprofit. (Others are doing) giveaways, sharing books or interactive games.”
The Burlington City Council on Monday approved a five-year contract with most of its union employees.
The city s new contract keeps almost all of the permissive language and gives union employees a 2.5% raise for each of the contract s five years. All sides agreed (the contract was) fair and equitable, Mayor Jon Billups explained.
With the exception of police officers and firefighters, all of the city s union workers are a part of the American Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees Local 828, with Burlington Public Library employees who are a part of the AFSCME union submitting a separate contract to the library board.
