Usually the first flight arrival into a brand new airport comes with a ceremony, media coverage and tarmac covered in officials and excited locals. But that s not been the case for the new Nancy Bird Walton Western Sydney Airport. Despite the airport being barely more than a building site and not being scheduled to open for several years, it s already had its first aircraft landing, albeit accidentally. A Piper PA28 with two people onboard made an emergency landing in the area that will one day be a busy commercial runway.
