SYDNEY: Renowned former corporate raider Sir Ron Brierley pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in an Australian court on Thursday, his lawyer said.
The 83-year-old New Zealand-born businessman is best known for waging high stakes battles for control over some of Australasia s most recognisable companies, including Air New Zealand, supermarket chain Woolworths and energy company AGL Energy, in his decades-long career.
Brierley pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing child abuse material on Thursday in Sydney s Downing Centre Local Court, Brierley s solicitor Penny Musgrave told Reuters by telephone.

A former client accused of stalking celebrity personal trainer Steve Commando Willis has had a win in court as she is granted permission to submit more evidence in her appeal against an apprehended violence order.
The Biggest Loser star, 44, was granted an AVO against former personal training client Jun Margaret Yue in October after he claimed she began crossing the boundaries of a normal client-trainer relationship.
Ms Yue immediately launched an appeal against the AVO and will now be allowed to submit four text messages as part of her evidence in an attempt to clear her name.
The texts were sent over the holiday period as Ms Yue planned to drop off Christmas presents at the celebrity trainer s home, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Thousands of child abuse images were found at Sir Ron Brierley s waterfront Sydney mansion, police allege in court documents.
The documents also show the number of charges the business titan faces has grown to 17, a jump from the original six he faced after his laptop and other electronic devices were seized at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport in December 2019 and he was taken to the Mascot police station.
The case was back at Sydney s Downing Centre Local Court yesterday, and adjourned again to April 1.

The lawyer for a German Olympic rower who allegedly killed a Sydney father in a hit-and-run says there is no evidence to support the charges , which have ruined his client s life.
Retired fruiterer and father Antonio Tony Plati, 66, was allegedly hit by a Volkswagen Amarok driven by Matthias Ungemach, 52, in the early hours of February 22, 2020.
Tony Plati died in a hit-and-run incident on Sydney s northern beaches in February 2020.

Mr Ungemach allegedly did not stop the car and a neighbour found Mr Plati on the side of the road with critical injuries. He later died in hospital.
