From dragon ladies to geeky sidekicks, being Asian in America comes with complicated and contradictory expectations.
Over 6,600 incidents of anti-Asian assaults have occurred in the last year, with over 2,800 of those incidents reported in March 2021 aloneâa 164% increase over the same period last year. However, discrimination against people of Asian descent living in the U.S. is nothing new.
In an effort to amplify Asian voices and experiences, for this special episode of Speakers Forum weâre passing the mic to KUOWâs Kristin Leong and her co-host Joe Kye. Their program highlights issues of gender, sexuality, and shifting images of Asian representation today.

Nine has today named the judging panel for its much-anticipated State of Originality, Australia’s richest advertising award, aimed at making State of Origin the equivalent of Australia’s Super Bowl in advertising terms.
The 2021 State of Originality, launching in June, will be overseen by a judging panel that is match-fit for the size of this challenge to the country’s advertising communicators: Australia’s most awarded creatives, Tara Ford, CCO of The Monkeys; Ant White, CCO from newly minted agency Howatson+White; former adman, Gruen panelist and 3AW Breakfast co-host Russel Howcroft; and globally acclaimed disruptor, former CEO of BBH, founder of MakeLoveNotPorn and all-round advertising legend, Cindy Gallop.

Nine has named an all-star judging panel for its new State of Originality challenge for brands and creatives, a competition that $1 million in advertising inventory across Nine’s assets given away.
The 2021 State of Originality will launch in June, overseen by a judging panel of leading advertising industry minds, to decide upon the winning commercial. To be eligible, marketers and brands need only to have their ad air within the three-game period of the NRL’s State of Origin 2021.
Former DDB Sydney, now The Monkeys’ chief creative officer, Tara Ford, will be joined on the panel by Ant White, who left his role as CCO at CHE Proximity to start Howatson + White in late 2020.
