Sandiganbayan affirms graft conviction of businessman

(MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) Affirmed were the conviction of Donald B. Villademosa, owner of Villtrade Marketing, and the 10-year imprisonment imposed on him for violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. Villademosa’s co-accused – former Mayor Gerry Jovilla Morales, Municipal Engineer Roseller Nazareno Macayra, Municipal Accountant Emeritos Morales Jovilla, Municipal Treasurer Francisco Serra Jimenez Jr. had been convicted in 2014. They were charged with graft for purchasing P101,086.37 worth of tires from Villademosa’s company, a firm dealing with farm animals and general merchandize.  The tires were not delivered to the municipality. The 2014 Sandiganbayan decision stated that “by allowing the disbursement of public funds in the amount of P101,086.37 and paying the same to the Villtrade Marketing despite the fact that no tires were delivered, accused caused actual damage to the municipality of Baganga and conferred unwarranted benefit to Villtrade Marketi

Thom Mpinganjira Has Case To Answer-Court Rules

Dr Thomson Frank Mpinganjira The High Court in Blantyre has ruled that Thom Mpinganjira has a case to answer in the judge bribery case. He has been found with a case to answer on six charges. Delivering her ruling, Judge Justice Dorothy Degabrielle says there is evidence in form of screen shots and audio recordings which shows that the accused was sent to give a parcel of money to second witness Justice Healy Potani. She said it the opinion of court that the elements of the charges have been proved by the evidence of the prosecution. She says the prosecution had made a premafacial case against Mpinganjira and he should enter defense.

Corruption: ICPC Secures Interim Forfeiture Of N316,748

Channels Television     A Kaduna State High Court has ordered the interim forfeiture of N316,748 belonging to one Haruna Mamuda, over allegations of fraud. Mr. Mamuda was docked before Justice M.M. Ladan of the Kaduna State High Court on allegations of corruption by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following a receipt of a petition against him. He was alleged to have fraudulently demanded and received the sum of N120,000 from one Bartholomew Ifeanyi Nwagu, as a security clearance fee for a non-existent federal government committee. ICPC had approached the court with an ex parte motion pursuant to section 45, 47 and 48(1) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 for an order for the interim forfeiture of the money held in the First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB) account of Mamuda.
