Unscripted series have played a big part in keeping broadcast networks afloat during the novel coronavirus pandemic. In the early days of the outbreak, several were able to move quickly to filming remotely, and later in 2020 they were among the first shows to go back into full production, either via quarantine bubbles or in studio with strict safety protocols.
As a result, the ranks of competitions, game shows and other reality staples have swelled in the past year, with the five English-language broadcasters housing nearly 60 unscripted titles.
The past year has been difficult for many.
