KARACHI: The Sindh cabinet in its around five-hour-long sitting on Tuesday approved the Water Act, devolution of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to divisional level, ratified Pak Army requirement in support of civil administration, upgraded posts of town officers from BS-11 to BS-16 and approved Rs1 million compensation to the heirs of the government employees who had died of Covid-19.
The cabinet meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah here at CM House. The meeting was attended by provincial ministers, advisers, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah and other secretaries.
The local government department presented the Sindh Water Act to establish the Sindh Water Resource Commission to be headed by the chief minister while the chief secretary would be its vice chairman. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has formed a six-member committee to formulate bylaws relating to the issuance of a no-objection certificate by the fire brigade department for the construction of high-rise buildings in Karachi.

SHC orders demolition of ‘illegal structures’ at Lyari Park

The Sindh High Court has ordered the authorities to stop the illegal construction at Lyari’s Ismail Shaheed Park.
The Sindh Building Control Authority has been instructed to take immediate action and submit a progress report. Notices have been issued to SBCA DG and other respondents.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi remarked that all illegal structures should be demolished immediately.
The petitioner claimed that encroachers have taken down the park’s boundaries and started construction work there. All the big parks in the city have been encroached upon and now they are after small parks, he remarked.

ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday approved four references, five investigations and 12 inquiries, mostly against officials of the Sindh government.
The meeting, presided over by NAB chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal, authorised filing of four references against former secretary land utilisation, Sindh, Ghulam Mustafa Phal and others on allegations of illegally allotting state land in Malir district causing a loss of Rs12 billion to the exchequer.
