The VCs highlight rising expenditures and demand an immediate increase to maintain/run the varsities. Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood is addressed in the letter sent to Tareen. A copy has also been dispatched to the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad, the federal finance secretary and the federal HEC secretary. In addition, a copy has also been sent to Sindh Higher Education Commission Chairperson Dr Asim Hussain, additional chief secretary, universities, their boards, and the provincial finance secretary.

In a meeting of the Coronavirus Task Force on Monday, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that in the month of May, 143 people died from the deadly virus. One hundred and twenty-three patients are on ventilators of which 19 are at home. There are 664 ventilator beds in Sindh and presently 58 of them are occupied.

PHOTO: EXPRESS KARACHI: The cleaning of storm water drains in Karachi is in full swing, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) claimed on Sunday following the looming threat of cyclone Tauktae hitting Balochistan and Sindh in the coming days. According to the authority s spokesperson,14,900 tonne of garbage had been removed from the Mahmoodabad drain so far, whereas 153,031 tonne of garbage had been disposed of from the Orangi drain and 73,550 from the Gujjar Nullah.
