Photo provided by Sindh CM House Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and assured him that the Ministry of Interior would provide all the support Sindh needed in its operation against bandits. Rashid who is visiting Karachi on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan to formulate a security strategy for Sindh against the backdrop of recent incidents of violence in the upper part of the province told the chief minister that he could seek Rangers’ assistance for the operation at any time, according to a press release by the Sindh government.

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday removed Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon and posted Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqub Minhas as the new police chief of the metropolis. According to a notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah, Addl IG Minhas, a grade-21 officer presently serving as the head of the Special Branch, is transferred and posted as the Addl IG Karachi range. Mr Memon, also a grade-21 officer who was appointed as Karachi police chief in July 2019, is appointed as Addl IG Special Branch in place of Mr Minhas. Sources in the police and Sindh government said that the transfer of the city police chief was already in the pipeline for quite some time.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Shariq Vohra and Businessmen Group chairperson Zubair Motiwala maintained that while traders had always supported the government in its efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus and realised the need to take precaution during the third wave of the pandemic, the decision to keep markets closed two days a week was not a good one.
