Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and assured him that the Ministry of Interior would provide all the support Sindh needed in its operation against bandits.
Rashid who is visiting Karachi on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan to formulate a security strategy for Sindh against the backdrop of recent incidents of violence in the upper part of the province told the chief minister that he could seek Rangers’ assistance for the operation at any time, according to a press release by the Sindh government.
KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday removed Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon and posted Additional Inspector General Imran Yaqub Minhas as the new police chief of the metropolis.
According to a notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah, Addl IG Minhas, a grade-21 officer presently serving as the head of the Special Branch, is transferred and posted as the Addl IG Karachi range.
Mr Memon, also a grade-21 officer who was appointed as Karachi police chief in July 2019, is appointed as Addl IG Special Branch in place of Mr Minhas.
Sources in the police and Sindh government said that the transfer of the city police chief was already in the pipeline for quite some time.

The Government of Sindh on Monday swapped the posts of the Karachi police and Special Branch chiefs, appointing Imran Yaqoob Minhas as Karachi Range Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl IGP) and Ghulam Nabi Memon as Special Branch Addl IGP. A total of four officers have been transferred.
A notification issued by Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah reads that Minhas, an officer of the Police Services of Pakistan (PSP) (BS-21), Special Branch Addl IGP, has been transferred and posted with immediate effect and until further orders as Karachi Range Addl IGP in place of Memon, PSP (BS-21).

The provincial government earned the court s ire on Wednesday over its failure to implement the Sindh Senior Citizens Welfare Act 2014, which was enacted into law in 2016.
A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito, directed the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government to establish old age homes in every district of Karachi, ensure the provision of Azadi Cards to senior citizens - so they may avail the benefits and privileges as provided under the law - within a month. Justice Mazhar observed that laws are made but there is no implementation.

Traders in Karachi have objected to the Sindh government s decision of keeping markets closed two days a week as part of measures taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus during the third wave of the pandemic.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Shariq Vohra and Businessmen Group chairperson Zubair Motiwala maintained that while traders had always supported the government in its efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus and realised the need to take precaution during the third wave of the pandemic, the decision to keep markets closed two days a week was not a good one.
