While most of the country’s theatres remain closed under COVID-19 restrictions, Cineplex CEO Ellis Jacob says it’s time health officials across the provinces agree to “be consistent and move forward as summer movie season gets underway this month. Outside Canada, theatre marquees have been turning on across some of the biggest markets, with U.S. theatres open for business under varying rules by state.

Chief executive Ellis Jacob said Thursday he anticipates that COVID-19 restrictions will ease up in most provinces before late next month, ahead of the release of “Fast & Furious 9” on June 25.

TORONTO - Cineplex Inc. says it is selling its head office building in Toronto for $57 million as it looks for cash to pay down its credit facilities.
The theatre chain says it will continue to lease back its Toronto office for up to a decade, but plans to consolidate its office space in the city.
