An unconfirmed number of abducted Government Secondary School Chibok girls have escaped from Boko Haram captivity in Borno.

The over a decade long insurgency has claimed 40, 000 lives with property worth N3.42 trillion in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. 276 Chibok schoolgirls were abducted in 2014 and of this number, 107 have returned, 82 were released after negotiations with Boko Haram, while 122 continue to remain in captivity; until yesterday’s escape from the forest.
Confirming the escape yesterday in Maiduguri, Malam Madu Mutta, a parent disclosed that the girls escaped yesterday following attacks on some Boko Haram hideouts in the forest, west of Chibok town. To mark this, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD), is commemorated every year, on January 15, as a day set aside to celebrate the fallen heroes, who died in the line of duty while fighting to ensure the territorial integrity of the nation, whether on land, air or water is not breached or tampered with.
The Presidency on Thursday published a checklist of its security achievements to date, ahead of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day scheduled for Friday.
“January 15 every year is commemorated as Armed Forces Remembrance Day,” spokesman Femi Adesina said in a statement.
“As the milestone is marked this year, it also provides ample opportunity to chronicle current landmark achievements by our military in tackling security challenges in the land, towards fulfilling the constitutional requirement of Government guaranteeing the protection of lives and property.
Listed among the achievements were the restoration of some sanity in Borno State post-2015, the weakening of Boko Haram, the decimation of thousands of insurgents, and the purchase of new equipment for the military.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jan. 15 every year is commemorated as Armed Forces Remembrance Day to mark the end of the country’s 30-month civil war which ended on Jan. 15, 1970.
