Sault area starts off week with winter storm

The Sault News SAULT STE. MARIE The Sault and the surrounding areas saw a snowstorm on Monday where wind gusts reached 46 miles per hour.   Initially, a winter weather advisory was issued from the U.S. National Weather Service that was in effect from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. The advisory was upgraded to a winter storm warning as of 10:35 a.m. and was in effect until 11 p.m. Monday for Paradise, Trout Lake, Rudyard, Sault Ste. Marie, Brimley, Kinross and Sugar Island. The warning called for heavy lake effect snow with additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts. It was anticipated that the wind gusts were to reach over 35 miles per hour. 

Dangerous Whiteout Conditions Close M-28 in Chippewa Co

M-28 Back Open in Chippewa Co. After Closing for Dangerous Whiteout Conditions March 1, 2021 More than seven miles of M-28 are back open in Chippewa County after they closed due to whiteout conditions. Both lanes were closed between M-221 and I-75 Monday afternoon when up to 40 vehicles were in the ditch,  stuck, or parked in the roadway. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s department says no one was injured. Deputies responded to several crashes Monday morning, including one involving multiple vehicles on M-28 near Soo Line. Police were called out to M-28 around 9 a.m. No one was injured, but a car did end up in the ditch.
