Five new cases reported in Muskoka by Health Unit

An 80-year-old man and woman in Huntsville. Both were from close contact. A 65 to 79-year-old man and woman in Gravenhurst. It’s unknown how the man caught it, but the woman got it from close contact. An 80-year-old man in Bracebridge. The cause is still under investigation. Right now, there are nine active cases of COVID-19 in Muskoka with 412 in Simcoe County.

As of Wednesday, there have been 113 total cases in the District of Muskoka and 2,627 in Simcoe County. Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner said during his weekly briefing Tuesday if Muskoka was separated from Simcoe, it would either be in the green or yellow zone under the province’s colour coded framework.  “I acknowledge there’s a difference in the data (between two areas),” he said.

Simcoe Muskoka could have COVID-19 vaccine as early as next week, say Health Unit

SHARE ON: Photo supplied by: Pixabay “It is going to be the way to get the pandemic under control and help return us to normal lives,” Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s (SMDHU) Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner said about the COVID-19 vaccine. “We don’t know for sure when we will start getting the vaccine,” he said. “It’s possible it could be as early as next week.” Gardner said SMDHU will work with the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie as well as the City of Barrie to distribute the vaccine when they do get it.

Three cases added in Muskoka by Health Unit

The new cases are in: Female from Bracebridge over 80. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) says she got it from close contact. Male from Gravenhurst between the ages of 65 and 79. The cause is still under investigation. SMDHU also added a case from yesterday: Male from Huntsville between the ages of 45 and 64. The cause is listed as community-acquired.  There have now been a total of 117 cases in Muskoka with 104 people recovering and two dying.

Simcoe Muskoka s COVID-19 death toll climbs as health unit reports 52 new cases

  BARRIE, ONT. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reported the region s 57th COVID-19-related death Wednesday. The health unit says a woman in her 80s becomes the fourth person to die with COVID-19 in the past week alone. On Tuesday, a man 35 to 44 died at the Muskoka Algonquin Health Centre. On Monday, a man in his 80s died at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston and on Thursday, a woman, 65 to 79, died at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland. The health unit listed 52 new cases, including 17 people who are in the hospital. There are currently 401 active COVID-19 cases across Simcoe Muskoka, with most residing in Barrie, Bradford West Gwillimbury, New Tecumseth, Essa, and Innisfil.
