BANGKOK, March 16 (Bernama): Thailand is to begin administering Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine on Tuesday (March 16) after a brief delay due to concerns over its safety, with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha and members of his cabinet being among the first to receive the vaccine jab.
Virology expert from Bangkok s Chulalongkorn University Prof Dr Yong Poovorawan will administer the vaccine to Prayut at the Government House at 8.30 am (local time), announced Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Earlier, Anutin had said many countries continue administering the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine as there were no proof the vaccine caused blood clots as claimed.
Last Friday, Thailand delayed the Oxford-AstraZeneca roll-out following a suspension of inoculations using the vaccine in some European countries including Denmark, Norway and Iceland over blood clot issues.

The Criminal Court has dismissed a petition by the Digital Economy and Society Ministry to remove a clip criticising the government’s Covid-19 vaccine policy by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit.
On Jan 18, the former leader of the disbanded Future Forward Party broadcast a video criticising the policy live on Facebook, YouTube and the website of the Progressive Movement, which he now chairs.
Two days later, the ministry filed a complaint with the police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division, accusing Mr Thanathorn of royal defamation (Section 112) and breaching the computer crime law.

Siam Bioscience Co., Ltd., the first and only biopharmaceuticals manufacturer in Thailand, was founded in 2009 to preserve and continue what His Majesty the Late King Rama IX started on behalf of the Thai people’s health and wellbeing.
The company’s main products are biopharmaceuticals. Its first product was erythropoietin (EPO) which is used to treat chronic renal failure patients who can no longer produce sufficient red blood cells, resulting in anaemia. Its second product was filgrastim (GCSF) for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, who have high risk of infection due to low white blood cell counts. Manufactured using state-of-the-art biotechnology, both of these medicines are effective treatments with low side effects.

A government official has lodged a complaint accusing a banned opposition leader of committing royal defamation and a computer crime through online comments where he expressed concerns about national efforts to acquire coronavirus vaccines.
Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, the leader of the Future Forward Party and an icon of the Thai pro-democracy movement, was the target of the complaint by Newin Chorchaithip, the deputy minister for Digital Economy and Society, on Wednesday.
The complaint, filed with the police’s Technology Crime Suppression Division, accused Thanathorn of disseminating false criticisms of the government’s acquisition plan for COVID-19 vaccines. No charges had been filed as of Thursday, according to authorities.
