Dec 10, Colombo: Former Director of the Criminal Investigation department (CID) Shani Abeysekara has filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking a declaration that his arrest and remand is illegal.
Inspector General of Police C.S. D. Wickramaratne, Director of the Colombo Crimes Division, ASP Neville Silva, former CID Inspector Nishantha De Silva, Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon and the Attorney General have been named as respondents.
Petitioner Shani Abeysekara has stated that he has been arrested and remanded on charges of fabricating evidence in the murder of millionaire businessman Mohamed Siyam.
