In a statement, Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner said that the nation witnessed a family get justice for the murder of their beloved family member . Onondaga County DA Bill Fitzpatrick said that the verdict likely would ve never happened in the past, adding that he wasn t sure Chauvin would have even been fired. Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said he hopes the verdict brings comfort to George Floyd s family in knowing that justice has been served . Common Councilmember Khalid Bey added that while justice was served, the country s justice system is still in need of improvement.
