COVID-19 UPDATE: Five visitors test positive

December 22, 2020 Five visitors returned positive results for COVID-19 on Sunday, out of the 899 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. The new cases are a 30-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man, who both arrived on British Airways on December 18; a 37-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, who both came in on British Airways on December 19; and a 41-year-old man, who arrived on American Airlines on December 19. They were all asymptomatic, and tested positive on their second tests. One person was released from the Harrison Point isolation facility, so there are now 36 persons in isolation. Barbados has recorded 327 confirmed cases – 172 females and 155 males. There have been 284 recoveries.

The 20-year-old man, who arrived on American Airlines on December 19, was asymptomatic and returned a positive result on his second test. Additionally, two people recovered and were released from isolation. This brings the number of people in isolation to 32. Barbados has 322 confirmed cases, comprising 170 females and 152 males. George: Expect delays in COVID-19 test results

Article by Social Share The Ministry of Health and Wellness has advised travellers to Barbados to expect some delays in the return of their COVID-19 results from the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr Kenneth George, explained that this was partially due to an increase in visitors. In a media statement, George said although this was regrettable, the Ministry of Health and Wellness will make available all technical and support resources to ensure that the services are uninterrupted, and will be carried out in a timely manner. The Acting Chief Medical Officer noted that the laboratory was processing over 1 000 tests daily, and officials were working to ensure accurate results were returned.

Six positive cases, no recoveries

Article by Social Share A Barbadian and five visitors returned positive COVID-19 results on Friday, from among 1 144 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. The new cases include a 42-year-old male visitor, who arrived on Virgin Atlantic on December 14; a 67-year-old Barbadian woman, who came in on American Airlines on December 16; and a 26-year-old female visitor, who arrived on American Airlines on December 18. The three other people – two children, aged three and 11, and a 30-year-old woman – came into contact with a known case. No one was released from isolation, bringing the number of people there to 33. Barbados has 321 confirmed cases, comprising 170 females and 151 males; and there have been 281 recoveries.
