The 2021 Oscars brought back red carpet glamour after more than a year of Hollywood events disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, featured more diversity among the nominees than ever before, and honored Chloé Zhao, the China-born director of “Nomadland,” as just the second woman to win best director, and the first woman of color to receive the prize.
