Colorado Eagles Return to Budweiser Events Center With Win
For the first time in nearly a year, the puck dropped on the ice at Loveland s Budweiser Events Center for an AHL game.
While the only fans allowed to attend Wednesday s (Feb. 24) matchup against the Tucson Roadrunners were cardboard cutouts, the Colorado Eagles quickly became re-acquainted with their home ice in a 3-1 win.
The Eagles had opened the season with a five-game road trip, making stops in San Diego and Ontario and dropping four of five games.
The Eagles hadn t played at home since the AHL season was suspended last March due to the COVID pandemic.

Colorado Eagles are a professional AHL minor league hockey team playing in Loveland and affiliated with the NHL s Colorado Avalanche. This weekly notebook series takes a deep dive into the team.
The puck finally dropped on the Colorado Eagles season.
The AHL minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche had their season abruptly halted last March due to the COVID pandemic. The Eagles also were delayed in getting their 2021 season started.
But alas, Eagles hockey is back.

Colorado opened the season against the San Diego Gulls on Saturday (Feb. 13) and Sunday (Feb. 14). The Eagles lost both games 3-2.
Colorado Eagles GM, Former Coach Chris Stewart Retires
After nearly two decades with the Colorado Eagles, Chris Stewart is retiring.
The franchise s first head coach has been most recently serving as the Loveland-based pro hockey team s President and General Manager.
Stewart spent 37 total years as a hockey coach/front office member.
Stewart s first tenure as Eagles coach from 2003 to 2008 resulted in a pair of Central Hockey League titles in 2005 and 2007. Stewart later returned to the Eagles bench in 2010 and spent a total of 11 season as head coach making the playoffs in each season.
“One of the greatest honors of my life is to be associated with the Colorado Eagles and this fantastic gentleman,” said Eagles owner and CEO Martin Lind in a press release. “We all have an incredible indebtedness to this man for his tenure here and I’m so happy for Chris to enjoy some well-deserved time off.”
