Aaron Jones, El Paso’s Own $48 Million Dollar Packer
Following months of back-and-forth negotiating, running back Aaron Jones struck a deal with the Green Bay Packers to be the franchise’s preferred tailback in the foreseeable future.
UTEP’s all-time leading rusher could’ve signed for more in free agency. Green Bay could’ve let him walk and justified it with AJ Dillon, who they drafted in the second round of the 2020 draft. Instead, both sides reached an agreement on a four-year, $48 million contract, including a $13 million signing bonus.
There was a good chance both sides would’ve gone their separate ways this offseason.

Over the years, we have seen Minor League Baseball act as a testing ground for various rules changes. 2021 will be no different, and MLB announced a variety of rules experiments that they will be conducting in each Minor League this season. Here is the official statement from the press release by the league yesterday.
These experimental playing rules have been approved by the Competition Committee and the Playing Rules Committee. MLB will closely monitor and analyze the impact of each rule change throughout the 2021 season and report to Clubs on their effects for further analysis. Consistent with the preferences of our fans, the rule changes being tested are designed to increase action on the basepaths, create more balls in play, improve the pace and length of games, and reduce player injuries.
Twitter Explodes During UTEP Loss to FAU in CUSA Tournament
The 2020-21 UTEP men s basketball season came to an end last night in Frisco, Texas in the second round of the C-USA Tournament. The Miners, a 5th seed in the Western Division, lost to the Florida Atlantic Owls 76-70 in a tight game that was marred by controversy. With the score tied late in the second half, Bryson Williams made a move on the baseline and appeared to be fouled for a three-point play. Instead, veteran official Kerry Sitton blew his whistle and said that Williams was out of bounds. After watching the replay, it was obvious that Bryson s foot was nowhere close to being out of bounds. The Twitter world soon erupted around the country by people watching the game on ESPN+.

UTEP Women s Basketball - No. 2 Seed
The UTEP women s basketball team (16-7, 13-5) clinched the second overall seed in the C-USA West Divison, putting themselves in a position to make a run at the league s title. First off, they won t have to play until Thursday when they face either Florida Atlantic (3rd seed, East Division), UAB (6th West) or UTSA (7th West), all of whom the Miners have faced at one point this year.
After they won nine straight games, Florida Atlantic beat the Miners at the Haskins Center (67-62). The squad regrouped the next day and smashed the Owls (92-62) to split the series. In the middle of their winning streak, they swept both UAB and UTSA. Sophomore point guard Katia Gallegos leads the team by averaging 14.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She was named to the league s All-Conference First Team on Monday.
