Defense Ministry Shuffles Army Leadership
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense on Saturday said a recent change in the leadership of the national army corps is aimed at increasing the abilities and skills of army forces on the battlefield.
The ministry has appointed new commanders for three army corps. Gen. Haibatullah Alizai has been appointed as commander of the Special Operations Corps, replacing Gen. Farid Ahmadi. Also, Col. Mohammad Ali was appointed as commander of the 4th Regiment of the Special Operation Corps while Mustafa Wardak was appointed as the commander of 209 Shaheen Army Corps and Gen. Abdul Jabbar as commander of 201 Selab Army Corps.
MoD Names New Commanders for Army in Reshuffle
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has appointed new commanders for at least three Army corps as part of the government’s reforms agenda in the security sector and preparations for the fight against militants, officials said on Friday.
In a latest development, the Ministry of Defense appointed Gen. Haibatullah Alizai as commander of the Special Operations Corps, replacing Gen. Farid Ahmadi.
Also, Col. Mohammad Ali was appointed as commander of 4th regiment of the Special Operation Corps while Mustafa Wardak was appointed as the commander of 209 Shaheen Army Corps and Gen. Abdul Jabbar as commander of 201 Selab Army Corps.
Taliban Commanders With Seven Colleagues Killed in Balkh Air Strike

Mazar-e-Sharif (BNA) Nine Taliban insurgents, including two local Taliban commanders, were killed in an airstrike in Balkh last night.
The Taliban were targeted in their hideout in Shulgara district.
The Special Operations Corps said in a statement that Maulwi Hashem and Maulwi Omar, commanders of Taliban were killed in the airstrike, along with seven others.
In this attack, the Taliban hideout with all its military equipment was razed to the ground.
The Taliban were reportedly organizing series of terrorist attacks, that targeted by security forces air strike.
