PHOTO COURTESY TTPS A late-night raid at a nightclub at One Woodbrook Place, St James, on Sunday led to 100 people being detained, including the children of well-known businesspeople, police said. A police media release on Monday reported that members of the Western Division and the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) went to the Residence nightclub after Police Commissioner Gary Griffith was told about a party there. The release said Griffith spoke with head of the Western Division acting Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson and co-ordinated the shutting down of the event.

MARK BASSANT At least 75 people were momentarily detained by police officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and officers of the Western Division Task Force, after officers swooped down on the popular Residence nightclub in One Woodbrook Place just before midnight on Sunday. Senior investigators told Guardian Media that police gained entry into the nightclub by breaking the chain lock to the door of the basement entrance just after 11:35 p.m. The operations were spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Thompson, along with ASP Henry and SORT. Guardian Media arrived on the scene shortly after and went through the basement entrance to later see a man lying on the ground on his stomach, handcuffed, with two police officers standing guard.

Police said Robin Krishna Mahabir appeared before magistrate Aden Stroude in the Siparia magistrates court. He was granted $10,000 bail and was told to return to court on February 16.
