KUALA LUMPUR: A triple murder in Dengkil in 2013 went unsolved until DNA matches were found some four years later.
Based on blood samples collected at the crime scene, police forensic teams managed to get DNA hits with suspects caught in Ops Cantas in 2017.
Two men were detained and subsequently charged.
This is one of the many successes of Bukit Aman’s Forensic DNA Databank Malaysia (FDDM), which is targeting more sophisticated tools to solve crimes.
Set up in 2012, it needs about RM11mil annually to operate at optimum level.
IPOH: Police have arrested 364 people, including a 14-year-old boy, during a two-day operation that netted about RM59,200 worth of drugs.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the 364, which included locals and foreigners, were arrested at 16 locations throughout the state on April 5 and 6. They were mostly arrested at ports (drug dens) near oil palm estates. Among them are 353 men and 12 women, aged between 14 and 70, he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 7).
“From the total, 64 were arrested for distributing drugs, 106 for drug possessions, and the remaining 159 for drug abuse,” he said, adding that the Ops Sarang Khas Bersepadu also included officers from the Perak National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old Sabahan who was detained under the preventive law was freed after a Shah Alam High Court ruled that his detention order, signed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was defective and void, as it did not use the premier s real name.
Lawyer Kamil Munim, who is part of the team representing Awang Sari Lasikan, said the court was of the opinion that ministers in carrying out their official function must use their names in their MyKad and the Federal Government gazette.
In the detention order sighted by The Star, the Prime Minister had signed on for Awang to be detained under Section 6(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 for two years from March 9, 2020, at a rehabilitation centre in Simpang Renggam, Johor.
