Lavrov, UN envoy see no alternative to political settlement of Syria crisis
MOSCOW. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen met on Thursday to discuss the entire spectrum of problems related to Syria, and they agreed that there is no alternative to a political solution to the crisis in that country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. A common opinion was voiced that there is no alternative to a political solution to the Syria crisis within the framework of a process led and carried out by the Syrians themselves, based on respect for sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the SAR, as is envisioned by UN Security Council Resolution 2254, it said.

Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration designate, has held a bilateral meeting with Mr Mikhail Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in Accra.
Mr Bogdanov, who is also the Special Presidential Representative of Russia for the Middle East and Africa, led a delegation comprising Russian Foreign Ministry officials and private business people to Ghana to explore business opportunities in the mining and related sectors in Ghana.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey recalled the historic and enduring relations existing between Ghana and Russia and expressed the hope that the visit of the Russian delegation would invigorate the relations for the benefit of the two countries as new opportunities were identified.

The second meeting of the Coordinating Council under the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum took place on 2nd February via video conference.

Ambassador-at-Large and Head of the Secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum Oleg Ozerov;
Head of the Cordinating Council, CEO and Chairman of the Roscongress Foundation Alexander Stuglev;
Executive Director of the Association of Economic Cooperation with African Countries (AECAS) Anna Belyaeva;
Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Irina Abramova, as well as representatives of Russian ministries and agencies, leading companies and business associations.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov met with Hamas political bureau member Mousa Abu Marzouq in Moscow to discuss upcoming elections in Palestine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Hamas delegation briefed its Russian counterpart on the latest political developments concerning the Palestinian issue, especially the Palestinian legislative, presidential, and National Council elections.
Bogdanov welcomed the visit of the Hamas officials and confirmed the Russian unwavering position towards the Palestinian cause.
