The Hawks on Thursday arrested five suspects in early dawn raids in Gauteng and Limpopo for their alleged involvement in the looting of hundreds of millions of rands from VBS Mutual Bank.
Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi failed to appear
alongside his co-accused former ANC MP Vincent Smith in the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday.
Agrizzi s lawyer furnished the court with a medical certificate.
Agrizzi and Smith are charged with corruption, while Smith faces additional charges of fraud for alleged payments made to his company, Euroblitz, in 2015 and 2016.

CAPE TOWN - A former Eastern Cape Department of Health employee has on Tuesday pleaded guilty to fraud charges.
Baxolile Ngoloyi has been convicted of fraud, corruption and money laundering, involving over R357,000 by the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Gqeberha.
From December 2017 to mid-2018, he conspired with Sithembile Smith, the sole director of Eza Services and Suppliers, a construction company based in Cookhouse, to use the business’ bank account.

The corruption and fraud case against Angelo Agrizzi and his co-accused former ANC MP Vincent Smith has been postponed to May 28.
Agrizzi could not attend the hearing at the Johannesburg specialised commercial crimes court on Tuesday due to concerns about his health.
Lawyer Mannie Witz said his client was at “extremely high risk” of ill health due to the dangers posed by the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason he would only be able to appear after his health improved or he received a vaccine.
“He was taken back to the hospital for tests, further tests have been made. He’s dependent on oxygen. We consult via Zoom or Microsoft Teams. In regards to one appearance in the [state capture] inquiry, he will do it on a virtual basis as he can’t appear,” said Witz.

Former Eskom Group Executive for the Group Capital Division Abram Masango and former contracts manager France Hlakudi appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday, alongside businesspeople Maphoko Kgomoeswana and Antonio Trinidade.
They face charges of fraud, corruption, money laundering, offering unauthorised gratifications and receiving unauthorised gratification.
The matter was postponed to 1 June to allow for the exchange of additional documents.
The case against two former Eskom executives who were allegedly involved in a R745 million corruption case at the Kusile power station has been postponed for more than three months.
