‘I’m Pissed, To Be Honest’: Dem Reacts To McCarthy Bombshell Dropped On Jan. 6 Commission Deal WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 11: Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) (Photo by Stefani Reynolds/Getty Images) May 18, 2021 3:56 p.m.
“I’m looking at the minority leader’s statement and I’m pissed to be honest with you,” House Rules Committee Chair Jim McGovern (D-MA) said Tuesday.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) statement had dropped just minutes before the hearing began, potentially delivering a death blow to a proposed commission tasked with investigating the January 6 attack. The House minority leader said he opposed the bipartisan proposal for a laundry list of reasons: it’d be political, duplicative, myopic, harmful to ongoing investigations.
Report: Kamala Harris Keeps List of Reporters Who Offend Her

Vice President Kamala Harris personally keeps a list of reporters who have offended her, according to a report in the Atlantic.
“Harris herself tracks political players and reporters whom she thinks don’t fully understand her or appreciate her life experience,” the Atlantic’s Edward-Issac Dovere reported in a Tuesday article.
The report noted Harris does not like the words “cautious,” “careful,” “guarded,” and “hesitant” but turns down opportunities to answer questions from reporters or participate in interviews. Harris was not pleased after a
Washington Post reporter posted on social media during a visit to Howard University that there were “screeches” of welcome from her sorority sisters.

Voting No But Taking the Dough Is Not Working Out the Way He Hoped
Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has joined a growing list of House Republicans taking heat over their votes to block the American Rescue Plan.
The Washington Post took a deep-dive into McCarthy’s district where elected officials, non-profit leaders, and community members “questioned McCarthy’s commitment to a district where they don’t see their needs reflected by his votes.”
An unusually large share of children in McCarthy’s district stand to benefit from the expanded child tax credit included in the American Rescue Plan he opposed – more than 93 percent, the seventh-highest proportion in California, according to figures reviewed by The Post.
Mr. Hoyer predicted “significant” GOP support when the House votes Wednesday on creating the commission, despite Mr. McCarthy‘s objections.
He also alluded to the political risk Republican lawmakers would take in supporting the measure. “I presume Trump doesn’t want this to happen,” he said.
The storming of the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob has become a defining issue for both parties.
Democrats call it an insurrection and blame former President Donald Trump for inciting the violence, a charge for which he was impeached by the House and acquitted by the Senate after leaving office.
Most Republicans defend Mr. Trump, though a faction in the GOP holds him responsible and wants the party to turn the page on the Trump era.

WASHINGTON (AP) â Senate Republicans are signaling that they will try to block â or at least slow down â a Democratic effort to create a 9/11-style commission on the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, threatening the chances of a deeper, independent look at the siege and how it could be prevented from happening again.
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday he is âpushing the pause button,â on the legislation to form the commission, which is expected to pass the House this week despite the opposition of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. That means the bill is likely to have a more difficult path when it reaches the Senate, where ma
