Drilon, on Monday, April 12, said both the Senate and the House of Representatives could pass a bill reducing the very high volume of pork imports when they resume plenary session on May 17. Drilon said there was a “clear effort” to bypass Congress on the minimum access volume (MAV) of imports when Malacañang issued the recommendation on March 26, the last day the plenary sessions of both legislative chambers before its Holy Week recess. Based on existing law, the recommendation becomes effective after 15 days when Congress has not acted on it.
