Punjab HR dept directs PCTB: Shift all religious content from syllabus to Islamiyat

Top Story April 22, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Punjab’s Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Department has asked the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) to exclude all Islamic content including hamd, naat and topics on the life of the Prophet (PBUH) from the textbooks of all subjects, including Urdu, English and General Knowledge, and shift the material to Islamiyat. Sources, however, confirm that this direction of the provincial HR department to the PCTB has been given without there being any decision on the matter by the provincial cabinet. The Punjab HR Department’s letter even ignored the Supreme Court, which has yet to take a decision on the proposed changes suggested by a one-man Minority Commission.

‘Religious tourism to be promoted in Punjab’ National April 2, 2021 LAHORE: Tourism and Archaeology Department (TAD) has decided to promote religious tourism in Punjab with special focus on 11 historical places sacred for various faiths. In this regard, a meeting was held here Thursday, TAD Secretary Ehsan Bhutta in chair. Additional Secretary Tourism, Director Auqaf, Deputy Secretary Religious Affairs Department, Deputy Director ETPB, Director Walled City Lahore Authority (WCLA), Senior Chief, Planning & Development Board, Director Archaeology and representative of PTEGP attended the meeting. The meeting was told that under the Punjab Tourism for Economic Growth Project (PTEGP), on-site management studies of 11 sites, including Gurdawaras Nankana Sahib, Rohri Sahib, Sacha Sauda, Katas Raj temple, Taxila Museum, Bibi Jawindi Uch Sharif, Darbar Khwaja Ghulam Farid, Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh were done. In many cases dealt by us, we painfully observe the deterioration and decline in the performance of the Revenue Department, absence of proper record keeping and the erosion of a system of checks and balances. Suspected transactions are easily recorded by disregarding the stipulated legal requirements.
