The Latinx Community Is Still One of the Hardest Hit by the Pandemic, and This Is How You Can Make a Difference

The Latinx and Black communities have been two of the hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis, especially women. According to a Pew Research study, Latinas have experienced a steeper decline in employment (negative 21 percent) than other women or men in the US, and this community is also facing higher hospitalization and death rates. This is why, for the second time since the pandemic started, Unilever and its United for America initiative are back with the Annual Day of Service campaign, a volunteering effort to give back to these communities, focusing on fighting food insecurity, helping small businesses, and encouraging vaccination.

Last year, was such a tough year for everyone, with the pandemic stopping the world.
That s why Unilever started its Day of Service, by donating $25 million of products to community organizations, including groups right here in Jax, like Feeding America and Boys & Girls Club of America.
Now, they encourage all of us to donate in whatever way we can.. with time, money. whatever you can.

Each year, Shelby County United Fund for You (SCUFFY) holds an annual fundraising drive for area organizations based in the community. This yearâs fundraising goal is $860,000 and a donation from Indiana Grand Racing & Casino just got the organization closer to their goal with a $40,000 donation.
âIndiana Grand has a longstanding partnership with SCUFFY, and it is important to us to continue our level of support for such a worthy cause,â said Mike Rich, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Indiana Grand. âOur team members also get involved in the process and donate through a few promotions we hold here at our facility. These funds help so many individuals in our community and we are glad to assist with this annual drive.â
