Fair board discusses 2021 fair schedule

The Great Northern Fair Board detailed the 2021 Great Northern Fair’s schedule at their monthly meeting Tuesday night. Wednesday, July 14, will host the Junior Rodeo with the Midway Amusements Carnival opening at 4 p.m. and running until midnight. Thursday, July 15, will host the Montana State University Open Rodeo along with free entertainment including Patrick the One-Man Circus. Specific times for both of these events have yet to be nailed down, but the carnival will have the same hours as Wednesday, July 14. Friday, July 16, will host the Northern Rodeo Association Rodeo at a yet-to-be-announced time, as well, and Patrick the One-Man Circus at 4 and 7 p.m., along with other free entreatment including the Paz Baseball Show at 1:30, 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and The Silver Starlets Acrobatic Show at 2, 5, and 8 p.m., with live music by Shake Down Country beginning at 9 p.m.
Kaercher announces run for Havre mayor

Staff and wire report Havre Finance Director Doug Kaercher, a former Havre City Council member and former Hill County commissioner, has announced his candidacy for mayor of Havre. I want to put my three decades of experiences in the local government to work for the residents of Havre as Mayor, Kaercher said in a release announcing his candidacy. My top priority is to use my experience to serve the citizens of Havre in an efficient and effective manner. His release said Kaercher - pronounced Care-Ker  - is a lifelong Havre resident where he and his wife, Darla, raised three daught.
Five face off in race for two school board seats: Holden

Michele Holden is running for a seat on the Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Five candidates are vying for two three-year terms, with the top two vote-getters taking the seats. Holden said she has a bachelor s degree in political science, a master s degree in human rights law and a degree in counseling education, which she s made use of as a mental health therapist for children. She said her experience in this field has prepared her for this position on the board. I think I m pretty good at listening and coming up with creative solutions, she said.
Local amateur documentarian looking to continue work on COVID-19

Havre resident Clayton Quinnell published a self-made documentary on the effects of COVID-19 on the Hi-Line in December of last year and is now making a follow-up. The documentary “COVID on the Hi-Line” can be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frLwZ7hioiI and features interviews with local public officials and residents about COVID-19 and how it’s affected them and the area after taking viewers through the opening months of the pandemic using a compilation of news clips. Quinnell, a recently-retired former business owner, said while the documentary seeks to examine.
