Charitable giving partnership announces awards
In its fifth year of providing support for local nonprofits, the Horizon Heating & Air and Hannah Flanagan’s Charitable Giving Program has expanded for 2021, adding partners Southern Alarm & Security and home comfort system manufacturer Trane. This year’s program selected 23 nonprofits to receive grants.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to give back to this wonderful community each year and am excited our partnerships are growing with the addition of Southern Alarm & Security and Trane,” Horizon owner Dan Poeta said. “We are all excited to be supporting 23 organizations with charitable grants this year.”
The companies joined together to streamline their philanthropic efforts and support local nonprofits through a donor-advised fund held at the Community Foundation of Henderson County. Quarterly grants have been awarded to the following organizations:
Marcella Daniel, an 11-year member of the club, competed against four other talented teens in a virtual competition on MLK Day.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Youth of the Year program celebrates the nation’s most awe- inspiring young people, recognizing excellence in leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Four other club teens participated in the 2021 local competition as well. Clara Hockenberry, Ali Garcia, Ivan Acosta and Cierra Burns joined Daniel in submitting portfolios to a panel of judges that detailed community service, academic standing and multiple essays. Each teen was extensively interviewed and delivered speeches describing the club’s impact on their lives.
