After our year of living dangerously close to the bar fridge at home, it came as no surprise to see Australian alcohol consumption go through the roof during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sales growth at major bottleshop chain owners Endeavour Drinks (BWS, Dan Murphy’s) and Coles Liquor (Liquorland, First Choice, Vintage Cellars) has abated after restrictions were eased in the second half of the year, half-year results to December 2020 have shown.

Coles Liquor reported a sales increase of 15.1 per cent in the half-year to $1.9 billion, its strong sales bolstered by 90 per cent growth in the e-commerce division. It enhanced product ranges during this time, introduced 126 local lines and noted sales growth in gin, rosé, craft beer and ready-to-drinks and consumer preferences for bigger pack sizes across beer, RTDs and spirits duri
