QRCS gives a lending hand to victims of flash floods in Yemen [EN/AR] Format December 23rd, 2020 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched an emergency intervention to help the internally displaced people (IDPs) affected by flash floods in Yemen, by deploying emergency medical care teams to the governorates of Taiz and Hajjah. This intervention comes in response to the humanitarian appeal issued by the Health Cluster of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to help the affected Yemeni families. At a total cost of $55,143, QRCS’s mission in Yemen is deploying 11 emergency medical care teams across Abs District and rural areas (Hajjah) and Al-Shamayatayn District (Taiz).

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is conducting an emergency response to Typhoon Vamco in the Philippines. With funding from Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), QRCS provided relief aid for thousands of affected families and deployed a relief delegation to take part in the intervention. As the Qatar Emiri Air Force aircraft arrived in the Manila International Airport, the QFFD-funded cargo was discharged and cleared by QRCS’s representation mission in the Philippines, together with the delegation deployed from Doha earlier this month.

QRCS supervises polio vaccination for 815,000 children in Syria [EN/AR] Format December 12th, 2020 ― Doha: Personnel of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Syria have recently completed the monitoring of the polio vaccination campaign in the northern part of the country, amid strict preventive measures against COVID-19. Done in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF), the campaign covered a total of 815,000 children under five years of age. It was an attempt to give oral polio vaccines to those children who had not been covered by the previous campaigns, towards the ultimate goal of zero polio transmission in the underserved governorates of northern Syria.
