It ends at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.
Chelsea Barnes, a lieutenant with the Salvation Army, said the campaign is more important this year than in previous years, as has been an increased awareness of the organization and its programs.
More people have been using the Salvation Army’s services, such as utility assistance, food assistance and even the Christmas Toy program, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnes said.
“Even with COVID, the amount of people that we have been serving overall has increased this year,” she said. “So the need is greater and therefore the need for resources and funding is even greater.”

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The Sheboygan Salvation Army‘s Red Kettle Campaign is the most visible operation of the holiday season and, because of the pandemic, it’s struggling to reach even half of its annual goal. But another, less-visible holiday operation is already a success.
Development Director Carrye Jo Cony said that their toy shop had a big demand this year, and that they have over 1,300 children from 450 different families signed up to receive Christmas assistance this year, more than they’ve ever had. To cover the demand, the Sheboygan Salvation Army worked with the Marine Corp Toys for Tots to fill the shelves, but even then weren’t sure they could fill the demand. However, Cony said, the community “really stepped up”, and they were able to get at least three, and maybe more, toys for each child.

With just about a third to go in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, Bass Pro is offering to matching donations to red kettles outside its Springfield location up to 20 thousand dollars from December 21st until 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
A representative for Bass Pro says its grateful that the fund will go right back to the community during trying times.
The goal for this year’s kettle campaign is 875 thousand dollars.
