Dry thunderstorms, increased lightning expected in Red Flag Warning areas in Wyoming By Brendan LaChance on July 12, 2021 (Shutterstock) While the Cowboy State itself is not dealing with any large wildfires, Red Flag Warnings have been issued in a number of areas across the state and dry thunderstorms are expected in some of these areas. “There will be an increased chance for lightning activity with thunderstorms,” the NWS in Riverton says. “Dry Thunderstorms with gusty and erratic outflow winds will create erratic fire behavior and new fire starts.” Article continues below. Red Flag Warnings are issued when humidity is expected to be low, wind gusts are expected to be strong and temperatures are expected to be high. Red Flag Warnings have been issued for Tuesday in the following areas, according to the NWS in Riverton:

Highs landing below average today.  Most areas seeing 60s and low 70s.  Normal for this time of year is 76 and tomorrow that ticks up to 77. Tonight, clouds will increase with onshore flow and some areas may see patchy fog as they start the day.   As high pressure strengthens Friday low level onshore flow weakens allowing clouds to clear quicker and daytime heating to start earlier.  Highs should climb into the upper 70s to near 80.
