Hong Kong to kick off citywide vaccination program 1 minute read
Hong Kong, Feb 18 (efe-epa).- Hong Kong is set to roll out a citywide Covid-19 vaccination program, with the government approving the use of China’s Sinovac vaccine Thursday.
Health authority confirmed Thursday morning their approval of the CoronaVac vaccine, developed by mainland Chinese bio-pharmaceutical firm Sinovac for emergency use. The decision came after a panel of experts said earlier this week that protection offered by the Sinovac jabs would outweigh risks.
The Sinovac vaccine has a reported efficacy rate of 62.3 percent and has not been approved by the World Health Organization.

Japan Approves Pfizer Shot; Auckland Locked Down: Virus Update
Bloomberg 2/14/2021
The pace of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. continued to ease as the country’s week-to-week average fell to its lowest in almost four months. The White House issued its strongest criticism yet of the World Health Organization’s handling of the investigation into the origins of the virus and China’s involvement in the probe’s findings.
New Zealand imposed a three-day lockdown on Auckland with the discovery of several local cases, bringing an abrupt halt to the country’s summer of unrestricted movement. Melbourne recorded only one community infection, bringing hope that its lockdown can be lifted this week.

(Feb 14): Hong Kong can start vaccinations for Covid-19 in early March if everything goes as planned, the city’s Civil Service Secretary Patrick Nip said. The first batch of vaccines from the German firm BioNTech SE should arrive at the end of this month, Nip said, according to a transcript of his comments to reporters provided by the government. Vaccines will be administered via an advance booking process, he said.
