It’s Sikh Heritage Month in Orangeville.
Mayor Sandy Brown made the proclamation and acknowledged the important contributions the Sikh Canadians have made to Ontario’s social, economic, political and cultural fabric.
Brown encouraged residents to celebrate and educate themselves about the roles their Sikh neighbours have taken on in communities across Canada.

While a ticket from the police can be quite upsetting for adults, youth throughout Dufferin County can look forward to getting written up over the spring and summer season.
Dufferin OPP are rewarding youth for good behaviour with “positive tickets”, under the community-based crime prevention program, “Operation Freeze”.
The program kicked off recently and is in partnership with Circle K convenience stores, where the positive tickets can be redeemed for a frosty beverage.
“Officers will be handing out coupons or as we like to call them, ‘positive tickets’, when they see you demonstrating acts of kindness or exhibiting positive behaviour,” said Const. Terri-Ann Pencarinha of the Dufferin OPP.
So he was grateful for the bag of basics, as well as for the lunch that was also provided by Khalsa Aid Canada on Tuesday a Sikh non-profit feeding the disadvantaged at a Christian street church. Tuesday was Vaisakhi, and April is Sikh Heritage Month, which is why a handful of young volunteers from the Victoria chapter of Khalsa Aid were inside the Mustard Seed, filling takeaway containers with midday meals for the long line of people who stretched down Queens Avenue. Plenty of others from the group wanted to pitch in, too, but COVID protocols limited the numbers on site.
