West Seattle Blog… | CORONAVIRUS: Monday 12/21 roundup

M December 22, 2020 (6:20 am) I just think there is something backwards in this world with kids not being able to attend school yet anyone can gather at church. We need to get our priorities straight as a society. So much for the separation of church and state. The virus doesn’t care what religion one has and it doesn’t exempt one from passing it through our community.  AMD December 22, 2020 (7:24 am) His hands are tied, unfortunately, because the Constitution doesn’t have a lot to say about education.  It does reference religion, so rules get made based on how that passage is interpreted.  Inslee still has the 25% capacity or 200 people as a recommendation, but he can’t make it a requirement unless another court issues a different ruling.  I’m grateful that the vast majority of churches (at least in our area) are taking the health and safety of their flock seriously and not having giant indoor services, knowing that church has been one of the top place

Vaccines should be effective against new, more infectious COVID strain in UK

Vaccines should be effective against new, more infectious COVID strain in UK A COVID testing site in King County. (Seattle-King County Public Health, Facebook) We received news over the weekend that there is a new and even more infectious strain of COVID-19 on the loose in England and South Africa. Mercer Island MD Dr. Gordon Cohen joined Seattle’s Morning News to discuss. “Let me start by saying this isn’t entirely surprising, but this is a newer strain of the virus that has about eight mutations on it, and it’s only been isolated in a couple of locations so far. It’s been located in South Africa and in a portion of England. And so what’s concerning is that this particular strain appears to move very fast and is rapidly becoming, so it appears, the dominant variant in the UK,” Cohen said.

Restaurant workers ask Governor Inslee for health, financial protections

Restaurant workers ask Governor Inslee for health, financial protections December 18, 2020 at 6:02 pm Restaurants continue to require patrons to wear masks, and likely will for the foreseeable future. (Seattle-King County Public Health, Facebook) Nearly three dozen restaurant workers across the state have written and signed a letter to Governor Inslee and the state legislators demanding more financial and health protections for service workers. The writers of the letter ask the state government to acknowledge the risks they take every day being around unmasked people who are eating. “Restaurant dining is not an essential service,” the letter states. “When we go to work, we risk our health and the health of our loved ones.”

West Seattle Blog… | CORONAVIRUS: Wednesday 12/16 roundup

aa December 16, 2020 (11:46 pm) Met market is not monitoring the number of people who enter the store.  I’m not sure what the current rule is but I was in there about a week ago and it was crowded.  Space marks on the floor at the check stands are not enough when there are so many people all around.  I won’t be back for at least a few months.  They mention team members who came in contact with the person, what about the customers? Disinfecting the space is not enough when there are too many people in an enclosed space.
