SEATTLE - A 20-year-old Alaska man was sentenced Monday to 20 months in prison for conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the fire he at the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct in August.
Desmond David-Pitts was arrested shortly after the fire that happened August 24, 2020.
According to federal prosecutors, after marching with the group of protestors in downtown Seattle, David-Pitts is seen on surveillance video piling up trash against the sally-port door at the Seattle Police East Precinct.

It was June 2020, and Seattle Policeâs East Precinct was a flashpoint as protestors called for police reform.
Then, without warning, Seattle police packed up and left the precinct.
We wanted to find out what led to this decision, and who exactly made the call to vacate the East Precinct. So we submitted a records request for six days of Mayor Jenny Durkanâs text messages, incoming and outgoing, from June 5 to June 10.

The Washington Legislature passed a handful of bills related to policing this session, but according to the Seattle Police Department, not all of them will affect the city’s existing policy.
Policing bills state lawmakers passed this session include:
HB 1054: Imposes restrictions on the use of tear gas, bans chokeholds and neck restraints, bans vehicular pursuits excepting specific scenarios, bans no-knock search and arrest warrants, prohibits the use of military equipment, and convenes a work group on the training and deployment of K9s.

Seattle – A 20-year-old Alaska man pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the fire he set Monday, August 24, 2020, at the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct, announced U.S. Attorney Brian T. Moran. DESMOND DAVID-PITTS was arrested shortly after the fire. DAVID‑PITTS faces up to five years in prison when sentenced by U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour on April 27, 2021.
