The threat posed to key Indian entities by antagonistic forces such as China is beginning to merit critical attention in all the right quarters. This follows revelations by the U.S.-based cyber security firm, Recorded Future, which were carried by the media in the United States.

Canada’s immigration minister said he is confident that there are no security concerns about allowing a company owned by the Chinese police to manage Canada’s visa application centre in Beijing, despite calls from opposition MPs to cancel the contract.
VFS Global, the company that manages the Canadian visa application worldwide, uses a subcontractor Beijing Shuangxiong Foreign Service to run its visa centres in Beijing. The company is reportedly owned by the Beijing Municipal Public Security, the police agency in the Chinese capital.
According a Globe and Mail report on Tuesday, a staggering 86 percent of employees in the Beijing visa centre work for Beijing Shuangxiong Foreign Service, while only the remaining 14 percent of the staff is hired by VFS Global.

State-sponsored groups in China appear to be targeting India’s power supply by dropping malware into systems, according to online digital threat analysis company Recorded Future.
On Monday, the Indian government issued a statement saying it took steps to mitigate risks posed by the ShadowPad backdoor malware that the hackers are using.
Although the Indian government acknowledged that various power grid systems across the country were targeted in a cyber sabotage attempt, it did not confirm whether a massive power outage in Mumbai last October was a result of a malware attack.

NEW YORK: A cyber intelligence company says it has found that hackers linked to China have infiltrated power systems and ports in India in a show of force and they have the ability to create disruptions.
The company, Recorded Future , warned, As bilateral tensions continue to rise, we expect to see a continued increase in cyber operations being conducted by China-linked groups such as RedEcho in line with national strategic interests.
