Image Source: IANS News New York, May 3 : Coronavirus is likely a seasonal virus, but will not vanish during summers, reveals a study. A team of researchers from Harvard University in the US and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, conducted a visual inspection of world maps and found that coronavirus disease 2019 is less prevalent in countries closer to the equator, where heat and humidity tend to be higher. The findings, published in the journal Scientific Reports, showed that countries are likely to see a decline in new Covid-19 cases during summer and a resurgence during winter.

Novel coronavirus really is seasonal, study suggests

Warm temperatures and tropical climates may really help reduce the spread of COVID-19, a new study suggests. The study found that places with warm temperatures and long hours of sunlight such as countries close to the equator and those experiencing summer had a lower rate of COVID-19 cases, compared with countries farther away from the equator and those experiencing colder weather. The findings held even after the researchers took into account other factors that could affect both the spread of COVID-19 and the number of reported cases, such as a country s level of urbanization and the intensity of COVID-19 testing.

[Photo/Xinhua] More than four in five Chinese are willing to receive COVID-19 vaccines, the highest rate among all six major vaccines for adults, a survey released on Sunday showed. Chinese people s overall acceptance of vaccines - meaning they recognize that vaccination can effectively prevent diseases - has jumped to 85 percent, up nearly 40 percentage points from last year, it said. Public awareness of vaccines designed to prevent hepatitis B and the human papillomavirus has also increased markedly compared with last year, but people s knowledge about influenza, pneumonia and herpes vaccines remains relatively low, the survey said.
