Taipei, Jan. 28 (CNA) Six Chinese warplanes entered Taiwan s southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Thursday, the fifth day Beijing has sent at least four aircraft into the airspace since U.S. President Joe Biden took office.
Four J-10 multirole fighter aircraft, a KJ-500 airborne early warning and control aircraft, and a Y-8 electronic signals intelligence plane entered the airspace between Taiwan and the Dongsha (Pratas) Islands in the South China Sea, according to a chart provided by the Ministry of National Defense (MND).
EDITORIAL: Chinese braggadocio falls flat
Beijing is fond of testing new US presidents before they have had time to get their feet under the desk and measure the drapes in the Oval Office. True to form, on Saturday just three days after the inauguration of US President Joe Biden the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force dispatched 13 aircraft including nuclear-capable bombers and fighter jets into Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone. This was followed on Sunday by another incursion into the same airspace by 15 aircraft.
The weekend’s sorties were clearly intended as an early test of the Biden administration’s resolve over Taiwan. Acting in concert, the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) propaganda machine has been working overtime, unleashing a clumsy charm offensive on the Biden administration, while pouring opprobrium on former US president Donald Trump and his administration’s officials.

Taiwan has opened to imports of U.S. pork containing ractopamine and beef from cows over 30 months old since the beginning of this year. In an effort to dispel concerns over such products finding their way into the Chinese market, TAO Spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) said on Wednesday that China strictly prohibits import of meat produced in or transferred from Taiwan.”
